While looking up at the ceilings inside a structure built in the year 537, you can’t help but be immediately inspired. I created this medallion using photographs I took while in the Aya Sofya (Hagia Sophia) on a trip to Istanbul, Turkey. The image in the middle is from the ceiling of one of the domes.

IMAGERY
Inspired by my recent trip to Istanbul, Turkey, every piece in this collection uses photographs I took while exploring this beautiful city. From Mosques built over 1,000 years ago, to tombs of sultans, each piece attempts to embody the historical significance and culture of Istanbul.

DETAILS
The mandala charm is approximately 1.5" in diameter and embellished with plum colored embroidery. 5 brass teardrop charms hang from the bottom of the circle.

TECHNIQUE
An image is printed on water resistant Premium Epson Luster paper and adhered to stiff felt. Then, I stitch shear iridescent fabric over the vinyl/paper creating a patch. To finish the charm, I whip stitch the patch to a piece of vinyl and slip metal in between the two.
