Hard to tell how well something like this works, unless you've spilled something on your bed which I have not. Seems to be working fine. Only difficult part was putting it on, like a giant pillow case for your mattress, so make sure you have someone to help you put on.

So I was hesitant to buy this based on the reviews I read. However, I took a chance. I have 3 kids who bed wet and was looking for any help I could get on keeping the mattress dry. I've tried the fitted vinyl covers (fail- tear easily and denigrate due to exposure to urine), disposable bed pads (fail- bunch and fall apart) and cloth bed pads (slightly better as long as there is something waterproof underneath). I figured I had nothing to loose when I ordered this. I put it on the mattress and zipped it up. No issues with tearing or zipper issues. Don't go all Hulk and try to be rough and fast. Its been over a week and this is holding up. I still put cloth pads on top and under the sheet, but no wet mattress, no tears, no problem. It isn't noisy either. I also notice that now that the mattress has been cleaned and allowed to try and after putting this cover on, there is no lingering odor of urine either as everything stays in a cleaner state. I'm one happy mama!
